Arm, Ltd. We create the HW and SW components that enable companies to develop products for the connected world.
I lead the Systems group, which creates HW "building blocks" for processors that are put into mobile phones, data centers, and everything in between. We also integrate and validate these blocks with other components from Central Engineering: things like processor cores and operating system software.
I am an engineer at heart. I love figuring out the best way to do things. Working with Systems is great, because I get to see the big picture as well as all the bits that go into it.
My Systems group is quite large, over 700 people, so I spend the vast majority of my day communicating with them in some form or fashion. I also meet with my peers, to ensure we are aligned, and contribute thoughts and data that help our executive leaders make decisions.
I've been working in engineering for over 30 years. I started out as a computer programmer, then software/firmware developer, then embedded systems engineer, then systems architect before I moved into management/leadership. Most of my positions have been with companies that are in the semiconductor industry -- i.e. they make "chips" for consumer electronics.
I strive to leave a lasting impact in the industry. I think the way I will do that is by showing others how engineering can be made even more interesting, effective, and innovative by the incorporation of data science and machine learning. My dream goal is to give a TED Talk on this subject.
I really enjoy doing things that use my hands, things like cooking, quilting/sewing, woodworking, and playing the piano.
Gosh, there are so many that inspire me! Most recently, I heard this one from Wayne Dyer: "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change". I think this applies greatly to ourselves and reflection, a practice that I benefit greatly from both for myself and my relationship to others.
