Our Engineering department aims to develop a global engineering curriculum which spans disciplines to produce adaptable and socially conscious engineers of the future. I am responsible for everything about teaching and learning in the Engineering department, including what we teach and how we teach it. I also do research into social justice, Femtech, and systems thinking for Engineers.
I love that I get to speak to so many students and support their journey over 3-4 years of a degree. I love that my entire job is collaborative with staff and students and that I have lots of autonomy in what I choose to do.
Delivering lectures or talks, being a committee member making decisions about policies and practices , supporting other staff and giving guidance on education related matters, speaking to my project students about their research and to my tutees about their pastoral needs. I also have some national roles where I review other University courses or support charities and organisations.
I earned a general Engineering degree followed by a PhD in Mathematical Modelling. I then worked in industry improving modelling and simulation before re-joining a university where I lead improvements in Engineering education.
I love being a change maker so I will spend the next few years designing and delivering the new Engineering degree at King's College. I will then look for a new challenge where I can gain responsibility for education beyond Engineering.
I have two children and we spend a lot of time outdoors, exploring local woods and reservoirs. We love to park run and the kids join us in a running buggy. I also attend a local church and lead worship there, as well as running a group for adults who want to learn more about how they can change the world.
I often refer back to this Bible verse: "The whole body, joined and held together by every joint, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow". We have to take care of everyone, regardless of their position and role in the world. When we make sure everyone is healthy, supported, and fed, we can grow together.
