Research to Empower and Sharing to Empower
My tasks and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Communication and consultation with my co-founders (e.g. strategic planning, website designing and updating, recruitment, marketing, and more); - Advocate to raise awareness of gender equality and sustainable development issues to the public; - Research and monitor gender and sustainable development issues; - Expand our global and local impacts by proactively reaching out to interested partners.
These two global alliances promote and support the educational, professional, and personal development of scholars and students who seek to make a change in the world through research, education, policy analysis, arts, and international collaboration. We support the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and advocate for gender equality and sustainable development. I love that we have both a global Impact and local reach through international partnerships. Recently, we have become a member of the United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth (UN MGCY). I greatly appreciate the support from my co-founders, scholars, and educators from Spain, Portugal, Tunisia, and India.
Since I am a student, schoolwork is my priority. I spend a lot of time after school and during weekends contributing to Research to Empower and Sharing to Empower as well as other passions, such as researching and learning new skills that I can implement in the organization.
My passion for gender and sustainability issues started four years ago when I trained competitively for fencing. Losses were difficult to cope with, but my mother told me, “Grace, with every loss, there is a win! Change your mindset and amazing things will happen!” This advice helped me shift my perspective to see the losses as opportunities. In less than a year, I went from an introvert to a far more confident girl with ambitious dreams. I noticed this personal development in others, especially female fencers. Fascinated and curious to explore the reason behind this, I started researching the role of fencing in women’s empowerment. I have presented my research at multiple global conferences and met many incredible scholars and panelists. Through their support and guidance, I established Sharing to Empower, a global alliance promoting gender equality and sustainable development through global partnership and local reach. We have exerted a great impact upon Asia, Europe, North America, and Africa. My work has contributed to and been acknowledged by the United Nations (UN), UN Major Group for Children and Youth, UNHCR, TEDx, the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. Bureau of Educational Cultural Affairs, the New York Academy of Sciences, the Stevens Initiative, local communities, and more. My mission is to build on my work, networks, and platforms to address gender inequality and sustainable development challenges. To achieve this, I developed a prioritizing roadmap of global projects for challenges, targeted workshop and conference presentations, publications, networking and leadership efforts at international and national levels, and volunteering for my schools and community. This will guide me in my future research, advocacy, and service.
I am passionate about becoming a female game changer in STEM. I want to give back to my community and share my knowledge so more people, especially young women, can benefit from my experiences.
In my spare time, I love to paint, design, code, run, fence, and more! My artwork has been selected by the United Nations to be the official website theme banner for its 7th Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology, and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals.
