Security Operations Center (SOC) Analyst

General Dynamics Information Technology - a large technology company with numerous contracts that aids in helping mostly federal partners secure their infrastructure.

Initial triage on cyber related alerts as well as provide recommendation for remediation.

I love figuring out what happened to cause an alert or uncovering malicious tactics.

A typical day at work depends. One day might be very fast paced with hundreds of emails and alerts to investigate or very slow with mostly just emails to analyze and determine whether they are attempts at phishing or not.

My journey was a little unconventional as I started with a psychology degree and some minor physical security work. While I worked overseas I decided in my early 30s to switch to technology and taught my self web development. Eventually I went back to school for another bachelor's degree and a Master's in IT/Cybersecurity while working in my first Security Operations Center (SOC) environment.

I want to work in Cyber research and threat intelligence which informs clients on where new threats and/or risks might be. I personally also want to find more ways to help increase diversity in tech fields.

I read a lot. I also draw and play video games. I like to give the dogs a good workout around the yard.
