Elpie Bannister

Senior Director, People Business Partner, and Leadership Development

Arm

Arm is the world's leading semiconductor IP company. We develop and license technology, from sensors to smartphones to servers. My role focuses on helping people become better leaders - through designing and delivering development programs, coaching, mentoring, and getting feedback from others.

I love what I do, as I have fun working with lots of different people and I learn every day. I am also curious about why leaders show up as they do, and believe we can all develop further if we are make a conscious effort to do so.

In addition to designing and delivering leadership development programs, I spend a lot of time talking with other people about why leadership development is important and how we can support people be better leaders across Arm. I send a lot of emails, and attend a lot of meetings, but this is all part of building momentum and engagement in leadership development.

I didn't know what I wanted to do when I left school, so I got a job to gain some experience in the world of work. After 3 years of working, I decided to go to university to study Human Resource Management. I love this subject - especially when I explore human behaviour in organisations. I have worked in a number of different organisations and industries, and love the pace and excitement of working in the technology sector. I have also run my own coaching and leadership development consultancy, however I enjoy being part of a bigger organisation and interacting with many different people from diverse backgrounds rather than working on my own.

I don't know what my future holds - but this is part of the excitement of the adventure ahead! As long as I am enjoying myself and feel that I am making a positive impact on those around me, I don't mind what I am doing.

There are different things I do for fun - depending on my level of energy. I enjoy walking my dog, practicing yoga, and working out how to turn my dream of sailing the world into a reality!
