I love that I can help software engineers grow, gain confidence, and motivate themselves. I also love that I can hire people and give hard-working individuals the chance to start their career in the world of software engineering.
I spend most of my days in meetings - team meetings, 1-2-1 meetings, management meetings, scrum ceremonies, or client meetings. The rest of the time I spend chasing different people to make sure the team has everything they need to focus on their work, or check and document team progress.
I started out as a software engineer. Then I moved to senior where I was doing some team leadership work on a project by project basis. I realised that this was something I wanted to focus on and became a Technical Lead, which was a hybrid of the work I do now and still hands-on coding. I decided that I enjoyed the management part the most and moved into an Engineering Manager role to focus on it.
I would love to continue down the management route and be Chief Technical Officer (CTO) one day. Over the last years, I have done some work to address gender imbalance, unconscious bias, and encourage females to pick a career in tech. I would love to be that person in a company that can make a difference by addressing the mission, hiring process, raising awareness, and training staff.
I go trampolining, which is a lot of fun. I have found a passion in writing and I read a lot more.
