Nisha Shenoy

High School Student

I'm a student at a California high school.

Outside of my daily classes, I love writing poetry! I'm currently a 2023 Santa Clara County Youth Poet Laureate Finalist. Last year, I had the opportunity to establish an after-school creative writing program at my local middle school for aspiring writers!

I love being able to provide these young writers with a supportive community to push them outside of their comfort zone. I'm super grateful to give middle school student members more opportunities to pursue writing with guidance and direct mentorship, something that I didn't have access to when I was their age.

My responsibilities include organizing advertisements for the creative writing program, coordinating meetings, preparing and presenting lesson plans, and facilitating communication between myself, the mentors, and student members.

I started writing when I was 11, after attending a Stanford Humanities Circle session. Something sparked, and since then, I've continued to write and improve as much as I can! My written work has been recognized and published by several prestigious organizations, competitions, and literary magazines, including the Iowa Young Writers' Studio and the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

I plan to keep writing for as long as I can! The goal is to eventually publish a chapter book of my poetry!

Outside of school, I love serving my community through Scouts BSA and Key Club, playing piano, volunteering as a GLAM Ambassador and mentor, and going on trips to Costco with my family!

Better an "oops" than a "what if".
