Rebecca Sedler
Managing Director of Interconnectors
National Grid
National Grid plays a vital role in connecting millions of people to the energy they use, while continually seeking ways to make the energy system clean, fair, and affordable. National Grid Partners invests in entrepreneurs at the intersection of energy and emerging tech, with capital, resources, connections, and know-how. I’m responsible for safely operating 8GW of flexible assets which connect the UK and European electricity markets. I manage the 'interconnectors' that move power between Britain and continental Europe. I work with suppliers to ensure the interconnectors are operating efficiently and can move power quickly to where it's needed most.
I'm a commercial and strategic leader who is passionate about people, decarbonisation, energy, and infrastructure. I also sit on the board of Wind Europe, on the NESO Markets Council, and am a Fellow of the Energy Institute. As a working mother, I promote inclusion in the energy sector and am proud to be a co-founding member of the Womens Utilities Network (WUN).
Reading a lot and going to meetings!
I worked hard at school, but I also played hard, too. I went to university, always worked and lived independently, took international roles and never stopped learning.
I will probably always work in the energy sector, but I envisage doing more charity work. I co-founded the Womens Utilities Network (WUN) in 2018 for like-minded women working in utilities. What unites us is a common frustration about, and a passion to improve gender balance, equality, and equity across the sector. WUN provides a platform to give women support to enable their personal growth and career development.
I have three young kids and a husband who are lots of fun. I also have three younger siblings who I enjoy spending time with. I like to read, cook, listen to music, travel, and socialise.
